Exploring Continues: Exploring The Thetis Lake Loop!

Published by Rob Meush on

Hello Readers!

Today, I want to share my experiences on the Thetis Lake Loop, a trail that has quickly become my most frequented route since moving to Victoria, BC. This loop has been my training ground, the place where I’ve started many of my adventures, and it never fails to offer something new with each visit.

The Thetis Lake Loop: A Perfect Training Ground

When I first moved to Victoria, Thetis Lake was one of the first places I explored. Its close proximity to the city and the beauty of the surrounding area made it an obvious choice. The loop around the lake is about 5 kilometers and offers a great mix of terrain, including forested paths, lakeside views, and some moderate elevation changes. It’s the perfect trail for getting into shape and testing out new gear.

My Journey on the Loop

I’ve walked this loop countless times, each visit offering something unique. From the vibrant green foliage in the spring to the crisp, cool air in the fall, Thetis Lake always feels refreshing and invigorating. The trail has helped me build up my stamina and confidence, especially on days when I’m feeling less motivated. There’s something incredibly grounding about walking the same path and noticing the subtle changes in nature over time.

Pushing Further

While I love the main loop, I’m eager to push further into the trail network that surrounds Thetis Lake. There are several offshoot trails that delve deeper into the forest and lead to more secluded spots. My goal is to explore these lesser-known paths, challenge myself with more difficult terrain, and discover new vistas. I’m excited to see what lies beyond the familiar loop and expand my adventures. As you can see in the image to the right, the red marks where I have bin, the blue marks a vast network of other trails.

Why Thetis Lake is Special to Me

Thetis Lake isn’t just a trail; it’s where I started my journey on Vancouver Island. It’s been a place of solace, a training ground, and a constant in my life here. Whether I’m out for a quick jog, a leisurely walk, or a more strenuous hike, Thetis Lake always feels like home. Its proximity to where I live is a huge bonus, making it easy to visit frequently. Additionally, the lake offers a beautiful spot for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and more, making it a versatile destination for all kinds of outdoor activities.

Thetis Lake is also special to me because it reminds me of the Whiteshell area in Manitoba, where I grew up. The rocky terrain and clear waters give it a very “Canadian Shield” feel, evoking memories of my time spent exploring the Whiteshell. This familiar environment adds to the sense of comfort and nostalgia I feel every time I visit Thetis Lake. I’m grateful for the times I’ve spent there and look forward to many more.
