Today, I want to share my experiences on the Thetis Lake Loop, a trail that has quickly become my most frequented route since moving to Victoria, BC. This loop has been my training ground, the place where I’ve started many of my adventures, and it never fails to offer something new with each visit.

On July 13th, 2024, our family hiked the Juan De Fuca Marine Trail to Mystic Beach, a 2km journey each way. Last weekend, I hiked the 10KM loop around Elk Lake in Victoria, BC, enjoying sunny weather and beautiful scenery. Although the trail was busy with people, a rowing competition, and a local fair, it provided excellent training. I’d rate it 7/10 due to the crowds but recommend it for its stunning views and local activities.
There are countless lists out there for the same thing, but this is my personal curated list which I update as I go along and learn. Note that this list is for both camping and backpacking, and not all items are necessarily needed for either activity. Feel free to use this list as you see fit.
