After the past few days of non-stop adventure, we enjoyed a slow morning at the campground, taking our time with two cups of coffee before setting out…

Before truly heading out, and about 10 minutes from the campsite, we stopped at The Bomb Coffee Shop in Kingston for breakfast and coffee. I made the mistake of not realizing that milk and sugar cost extra, so I ended up with a black coffee, which normally I don’t mind (and drink often), but this one was particularly bitter. Sarah’s mocaccino wasn’t much better, as it was more coffee than chocolate.

We left early this morning and drove into the town of Lake Tekapo to check out the Church of the Good Shepherd. Built in 1935, this small but historic stone church sits on the shores of the lake, offering a picture-perfect view of the turquoise waters and distant mountains…

Day 10 – A Well-Needed Rest Day

Today was intentionally a slower, more relaxing day—something we definitely needed after the grueling (but amazing) Abel Tasman hike. We left Motueka in the morning and began our journey to Hanmer Springs, where we had reserved a powered site at a holiday park.

The alarm went off at 5:30 AM, and we were immediately on the move, driving toward Marahau, where we would be picked up for our Abel Tasman sailing and hiking adventure.

Today was a long travel day as we repositioned ourselves further south on the North Island, making our way toward Wellington. Along the way, we passed through charming little towns and witnessed a stunning variety of landscapes…

We woke up feeling much better today after getting a little more sleep. The camper mattress was still terrible, but with an extra pillow for my neck, I managed to get a little more comfortable.

Up bright and early at 5:50 AM, we quickly got ready, secured the campervan for travel, grabbed a quick bite with coffee, and set off to our meeting zone for one of the biggest excursions of our trip…
