Thetis Lake Loop
Exploring the Thetis Lake Loop: A December Adventure
Life on the island just keeps getting better. Eight months in, and I’m still blown away by how much there is to do and see. This past weekend (Dec 8th 2024), we headed back to the Thetis Lake Loop—a trail that’s easily become our favorite. It’s gorgeous, it’s close (just five minutes away!), and it’s the perfect little getaway.
I still can’t get over the fact that it’s December, and we’re hiking in sunny, +11°C weather. Back where I’m from, this time of year usually means being bundled up, shoveling snow, or avoiding the outdoors altogether. Here, it’s completely different—green trees, clear trails, and fresh air.
The loop itself was as great as always. The mix of lake views and forest paths keeps things interesting, and the trail isn’t too challenging, so it’s easy to just enjoy the walk. The water was calm, the sky was clear, and the whole area felt peaceful. It’s one of those places where you can let your mind wander or just focus on the simple pleasure of being outside.
What’s great about the loop is how flexible it is. You can adjust the length to fit your mood or schedule. Want a short 3km stroll? Easy. Feel like stretching it out to 5km or even 10km? No problem. There are so many winding paths to explore, and you can either loop around the whole lake or take a shortcut at the narrow section with the bridge. It’s perfect for all kinds of hikers.
One of the best parts is how it feels like a mini escape without a big commitment. You get all the beauty and nature without having to drive for hours or plan a full day around it. We were able to take our time, enjoy the hike, and still have the rest of the day to relax.
Every time I’m on this trail, I’m reminded of how lucky I am to live here. Eight months ago, I wasn’t sure what life on the island would be like, and now it feels like home in the best way.
If you’re ever on the island, you’ve got to check out the Thetis Lake Loop. It’s a great spot to clear your head, stretch your legs, and soak up the kind of nature that’s hard to find anywhere else. Plus, hiking in December? Can’t beat that.
Here’s to more hikes, more sunshine, and more reasons to love life on the island! 🌲

Have you explored any hidden gems or favorite trails in your area lately? What’s your go-to spot for a quick escape into nature?

As always my friends, remember that we only live once, but if we do it right, once is enough. Embrace the adventure, cherish the moments, and we’ll catch you next time ❤️
